Renowned Wildlife Photographer Chungba Sherpa Passes Away
Prominent wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa has passed away at the age of 64. Sherpa, a resident of Lukla in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu district, died early this morning at 12:15 am while undergoing treatment at Grande Hospital, confirmed Phunuru Sherpa, Ward Chair of the municipality.
Sherpa had been hospitalized for a liver-related ailment and was placed on ventilator support during his treatment.
A multifaceted personality, Sherpa is remembered not only for his contributions to wildlife photography but also for his active role in politics and the tourism industry. He served as the president of the Nepali Congress for Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality and previously chaired the Chaurikharka Village Development Committee.
Sherpa’s passion for wildlife photography saw him affiliated with various national and international organizations, and his work captured the rich biodiversity of the Himalayan region.
He is survived by his two sons and three daughters.
Sherpa’s contributions to wildlife conservation, tourism, and local governance have left a lasting impact on his community and beyond.
