Resham Chaudhary Arrested Following Supreme Court Ruling

Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NAUPA), was arrested on Tuesday from Pragya Bhavan in Kathmandu, where preparations were underway for a joint event with the CK Raut-led Janamat Party to announce party unification.

Chaudhary was taken into custody by plainclothes police officers present at the event venue. According to Superintendent of Police Apil Bohara of the Kathmandu District Police Range, the arrest was carried out to enforce a recent Supreme Court decision.

Chaudhary was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the 2015 Tikapur incident, in which several security personnel were killed during a violent protest. Although he was granted presidential pardon and released from prison on Jestha 15, 2080 BS, a writ petition challenging the amnesty was later filed in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme court recently revoked the pardon, leading to Tuesday’s arrest. Authorities confirmed the move was in line with implementing the court’s verdict.
