RPP Nepal Concludes Tarai-Madhesh National Congress, Calls for Integrated Authority and Cultural Preservation

The two-day Tarai-Madhesh National Congress of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP Nepal) concluded today with a call for the establishment of the Tarai-Madhes Integrated Authority to boost development and improve the economic conditions of the region. RPP Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa announced this initiative during a press conference, emphasizing the Authority’s role in addressing the needs of the Tarai-Madhes, which encompasses 21 districts.

Chairman Thapa stated, “The population in the Madhes is more than half of the country’s total population, yet the economic standard in the region has stagnated. The RPP Nepal’s national congress concluded that the livelihoods of the people in the Tarai-Madhes must be improved through the creation of this Authority.” He noted that current budget allocations for the region remain minimal and called for future funding based on population metrics.

In addition, the congress proposed establishing a Mother Language Preservation Commission aimed at conserving the Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, and Tharu languages, which are integral to the cultural identity of Tarai-Madhes. This move, according to Thapa, is intended to promote the region’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

The congress also underscored the importance of an integrated agricultural and irrigation plan for the Tarai-Madhes, which is often referred to as the country’s “granary.” The RPP Nepal plans to launch a public awareness campaign from Chataradham in Sunsari to Trivenidham in one and a half months to raise awareness and advocate for these development initiatives.

The national congress, which saw the participation of over 200 party delegates, has reinforced RPP Nepal’s commitment to addressing socio-economic issues in the Tarai-Madhes region through strategic planning and cultural preservation efforts.
