RPP Slams US Report as Baseless and Biased
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has strongly refuted a report released by the US Department of State, dismissing its claims that the Bharatiya Janata Party and other Hindu groups in India have been pressuring Nepali politicians, particularly the RPP, to reinstate Nepal as a Hindu state.
In a formal letter addressed to the US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, the chairperson of the RPP, Rajendra Lingden, expressed the party’s serious concern regarding the report.
Chair Lingden stated in the letter, “The report contains baseless allegations against the RPP.” The party emphasized that the report drew conclusions based on statements from civil society members, but failed to disclose their identities. The RPP pointed out that these civil society leaders have not presented any substantial evidence to support the allegations.
Furthermore, the party highlighted that the report did not seek the views or clarifications of the RPP, resulting in a one-sided bias. The letter stated, “The report hence reflects a one-sided bias and falls short in presenting a balanced, credible, and trustworthy reality, if not the whole truth per se.”
The RPP welcomes sincere engagement from friendly nations to understand and support its agenda and goals. However, it firmly rejects any form of external interference or financial support.
“The sweeping allegations made in the report have the potential to tarnish our image, and we are deeply hurt by the consequences,” the party expressed. The RPP urged the United States Department of State to reexamine the report and rectify its shortcomings.
It is important to note that the RPP advocates for the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu state and the monarchy, which were abolished after a popular movement in 2008.
