RSP decides not to join Prachanda-led govt, to sit in opposition bench

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has announced its decision not to join the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’-led government. The party has also decided to withdraw its support for the government.

RSP’s central committee and parliamentary party joint meeting held at the party office in Bashundhara on Friday made the decision. The party has opted to sit on the opposition bench instead of participating in the government.

With the RSP withdrawing its support, Prime Minister Prachanda will now have to take a vote of confidence again. Despite his efforts to bring the RSP into the government, the party has decided to reach out to the people instead of joining the government.

The RSP had previously left the government after the president Rabi Lamichhane lost the post of MP due to a citizenship dispute. However, the party had continued to support the government until now. After the by-elections, there were discussions in the ruling coalition regarding the RSP’s participation in the government. Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the RSP, had also stated that he would consider joining the government if his demands were met.

However, following intense pressure within the party, the RSP has ultimately decided not to enter the government.
