Police have arrested Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, from the RSP office in Banasthali, Kathmandu. The arrest follows an investigation into accusations of embezzlement related to Surya Darshan Cooperatives in Pokhara.
Acting RSP Spokesperson Manish Jha confirmed that the police took Lamichhane into custody after receiving approval from the Kaski District Court to investigate the case. The police had arrived at the RSP office with an arrest warrant as part of their inquiry into allegations that Lamichhane and Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, founder of Surya Darshan Cooperatives, had misappropriated funds by transferring them to Gorkha Media Network.
Before his arrest, Lamichhane addressed party members and the media, denying any wrongdoing and pledging his full cooperation with the judicial process. He claimed that the charges against him were an attempt to undermine the nation’s hopes and aspirations.
The District Police Office, Kaski, continues its investigation into the case, which has drawn significant public attention given Lamichhane’s high political profile and previous role as Home Minister.
