Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane was arrested from his residence in Budhanilkantha on Friday evening, following an order from the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court.
A police team reached his home shortly after the court issued the remand order, which overturned an earlier decision by the Rupandehi District Court that had granted Lamichhane release on a bail of Rs 10 million in connection with the Supreme Cooperative fraud and organized crime case.
He is expected to be transferred to Butwal Bhairahawa later today for further proceedings.
The joint bench of Justices Ramesh Dhakal and Swikrit Parajuli ruled against the earlier bail decision, ordering Lamichhane to be taken into custody while the case proceeds.
