RSP President Rabi Lamichhane Opposes Time Limit for Corruption Investigations
Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has strongly opposed the proposed five-year time limit for investigating alleged cases of corruption, as outlined in the Bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act-2059 BS (2002). Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives today, the Chitwan lawmaker expressed his party’s clear stance that any statute of limitations on corruption investigations is unacceptable.
Lamichhane also called for the government to provide further clarity on the definition of ‘policy corruption’ as mentioned in the Bill. He emphasized that the fight against corruption must be thorough and unrestricted by time constraints.
Similarly, Roshan Karki of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) echoed Lamichhane’s sentiments, stating that her party believes there should be no excuses for those involved in corruption and no time limit on investigations. “Those responsible for corruption must be held accountable without any limitations,” she asserted.
During the session, other lawmakers raised additional concerns. Shakti Bahadur Basnet highlighted that 82 percent of settlements across the country have been affected by natural disasters and urged the government to provide temporary housing for earthquake survivors in Jajarkot district.
Lawmakers Sumana Shrestha, Raj Kishor Yadav, Sushila Thing, Saraswoti Bajimaya, Ram Kumar Rai, Amresh Kumar Singh, Shankar Bhandari, Prem Bahadur Maharjan, Ishwor Bahadur Rijal, Maina Karki, Abdul Khan, and Ramhari Khatiwada also called for effective disaster management and measures to mitigate traffic accidents.
