Russian Ambassador Meets Nepal’s Energy Minister to Discuss Cooperation

Russian Ambassador to Nepal, Aleksei Novikov, met with Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka today at Singha Durbar to discuss bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed appreciation for Russia’s longstanding support in developing Nepal’s human resources, recalling the Panauti Hydropower Project, which was built with financial assistance from the former Soviet government.

The Minister also briefed the ambassador on Nepal’s goal of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035 and sought Russian cooperation in achieving this target. He invited Russian companies to invest in Nepal’s energy infrastructure, including transmission lines, energy storage, smart grid technology, and green energy initiatives.

Ambassador Novikov affirmed Russia’s interest in expanding investment in Nepal’s hydropower and energy sectors. He also extended an invitation to the Minister to attend key international forums in Russia, including the Nevsky International Ecological Congress next month, the St. Petersburg International Forum in June, and Russian Energy Week in October.
