Sandeep Lamichhane Challenges Conviction, Moves to Patan High Court
Sandeep Lamichhane, a prominent figure in the cricketing world, has taken a legal step by challenging the Kathmandu District Court’s recent decision. The district court sentenced him to eight years in prison in connection with a rape case. Alongside the prison term, a substantial fine and compensation were also imposed on Lamichhane.
Lamichhane’s legal representative, Murari Sapkota, has confirmed that they have filed a petition in the Patan High Court, seeking to overturn the district court’s ruling and secure Lamichhane’s acquittal. Sapkota emphasized that the application is in the process of being registered.
Accompanied by his legal team, Lamichhane appeared before the High Court to formally submit the petition. The crux of their argument revolves around the lack of substantial evidence supporting the allegations of coercion mentioned in the district court’s verdict.
The Kathmandu District Court had based its conviction on claims of coercion, suggesting that Lamichhane exploited the victim’s financial vulnerability. However, Lamichhane contests this assertion, stating that there is no concrete evidence to support such allegations.
