SC to Deliver Verdict on Corruption Case Against Former Minister Govindaraj Joshi

The Supreme Court of Nepal is set to announce its verdict on the high-profile corruption case involving former Minister and Nepali Congress leader Govindaraj Joshi. After concluding the hearings, a joint bench of judges Binod Sharma and Bal Krishna Dhakal has scheduled the final verdict for July 28.

The case, initiated by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), dates back to Poush 18, 2060BS when corruption charges were brought against Joshi and his family members. Initially, the Special Court cleared Joshi of the allegations, but following a Supreme Court order for reconsideration, he was ultimately convicted and sentenced to one and a half years in prison.

Both the CIAA and Joshi have filed appeals with the Supreme Court, with differing demands. The CIAA is pushing for a more severe sentence, while Joshi is seeking complete acquittal.

The outcome of this verdict holds significant implications for the political landscape of Nepal and the ongoing fight against corruption.
