Security Tightened in Kathmandu as Pro-Republican and Royalist Groups Hold Separate Rallies

Authorities have intensified security across Kathmandu Valley as pro-republican and royalist groups stage separate demonstrations today. To ensure order and public safety, specific locations have been designated for both rallies.

The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has assigned Exhibition Road-Bhrikutimandap as the venue for the pro-republican demonstration, while the pro-royalist gathering will take place at Tinkune.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Rishiram Tiwari confirmed that security forces have been strategically deployed, rally routes adjusted, and security measures reinforced at both protest sites to prevent disturbances. The District Administration Offices of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur have jointly devised and implemented a comprehensive security plan.

The pro-republican rally is being organized under the Socialist Front alliance, which includes the Maoist Center, Unified Socialist, Nepal Socialist Party, and CPN Biplav factions. Meanwhile, the royalist protest is led by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai under the ‘Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizen Protection Mahaabhiyan’, advocating for the reinstatement of a Hindu state with a ceremonial monarchy.

Spokesperson for the royalist group, Swagat Nepal, has urged demonstrators to maintain peace and order. The Socialist Front’s rally will traverse multiple routes, including Maitighar Mandala, Kupandol, Tripureshwor, Sundhara, New Road, Sohrakhutte, Shanti Batika, and Maiti Devi, before converging at Bhrikutimandap.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid protest areas and use alternative travel routes. CDO Tiwari reassured that a comprehensive security plan has been enacted, with personnel deployed and traffic diversions arranged to manage vehicular movement efficiently.
