SEE Results Announced: Over Half of Students Fail to Pass

The National Examinations Board on Thursday published the results of the Secondary Education Examinations (SEE) held from March 28 to April 9. Of the 464,785 students who participated in the 10th-grade final examination, only 222,472 (47.86%) managed to secure grades and qualify for further studies. A significant 242,313 students (52.14%) were categorized as non-graded, failing to secure any grades.

Board Chairman Mahashram Sharma reported that examinations for 221 students were cancelled. A total of 31,209 students graduated with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.60 and above, with the highest possible GPA being 4.

In other GPA categories:

68,256 students secured a GPA between 3.20 and 3.60.
78,847 students achieved a GPA between 2.80 and 3.20.
41,177 students earned a GPA between 2.40 and 2.80.
2,950 students qualified for grade 11 with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.40.
Six students received a GPA between 1.6 and 2.
Students categorized as non-graded in up to two subjects will be permitted to attend grade increment examinations next month, focusing only on the subjects in which they were non-graded. Those non-graded in more than two subjects can retake the relevant subjects’ examinations the following year, with the opportunity to participate in annual examinations for the next three years. Beyond that period, they must retake exams for all subjects.

This year marked the implementation of a new syllabus and grading system. Under the new system, SEE students must score at least 35% in theoretical exams to qualify for higher studies. Previously, grades were awarded based on combined scores from theoretical and practical exams. Now, separate grades are given for theoretical and practical exams, with the new curriculum including a 25-mark practical exam and a 75-mark theoretical exam for each subject. Students must secure 27 marks in the theoretical exam to pass. Practical exams are conducted by schools, with marks sent to the board.
