
Senior Advocate Khanal Elected Bagmati Province Councilor


Senior Advocate Rabinarayan Khanal has been elected as the Bagmati Province Councilor of the Nepal Bar Council. Running as a common candidate from the progressive, professional, nationalist, and inclusive group, Khanal secured 2,449 votes, defeating Senior Advocate Parshuram Koirala of the Nepal Democratic Lawyers Association, who garnered 1,842 votes, according to Senior Advocate Usha Malla Pathak, Chief of the Election Coordination Committee for Bagmati Province.
In other provinces, Raju Dhakal was elected as the Koshi Province Councilor, Sanjeev Kumar Mallik in Madhesh, Dayaram Gautam in Gandaki, Ishwori Prasad Gyawali in Lumbini, Matrika Prasad Khanal in Karnali, and Tek Bahadur Kathayat in Sudurpaschim Province. Voting for all seven provincial councilor positions was conducted on Saturday, in accordance with the Nepal Bar Council Act, 1993.
With 11,000 eligible voters nationwide, each province elects one councilor to the Nepal Bar Council, an independent legal body established to regulate and promote the legal profession. The Council is chaired by the Attorney General, with the President of the Nepal Bar Association serving as Vice-chair. The Supreme Court Registrar and the Dean of Tribhuvan University are ex-officio councilors, alongside seven elected provincial councilors. The term for elected councilors is five years.
