Seven Dead, Six Critically Injured in Darchula Jeep Accident
In a tragic road accident early this morning, seven individuals lost their lives, and six others were critically injured when a jeep (Ma 1 Ja 338) plunged into the Sirad River in Shailyashikar Municipality-5. The vehicle was traveling from the Malikarjun Jatra festival to Gokuleshwor when it met with the accident at approximately 4:00 a.m.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Dahal, those who died on the spot include Birendra Rawal, 30, and Shanti Rawal, 28, both from Shailyashikar Municipality-5; Dilip Bista, 45, from Shailyashikar Municipality-9; and Sanjib Bohora, 15, from Dilashaini-5 in Baitadi district. Additionally, two Indian nationals from Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Safir, 45, and Mohammad Basim, 18, also lost their lives in the crash. Authorities are still working to confirm the identity of one deceased victim.
The injured were immediately transported to Gokuleshwor Hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the accident, as well as the total number of passengers onboard, is still under investigation.
The jeep was reportedly carrying festival attendees returning from the popular Malikarjun Jatra fair. Local authorities are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
