Sharma’s Call for Long-Term Vision: Putting Country First, Elections Second

Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has stressed the importance of developing a comprehensive 15-year blueprint for the country’s development. During a meeting with central working committee members, Sharma addressed the need for the party to focus on long-term planning rather than solely concentrating on the upcoming election.

Sharma emphasized that the party should move beyond immediate electoral concerns and concentrate on shaping the nation’s future through a well-thought-out 15-year plan. He expressed concern that solely focusing on elections might hinder addressing the country’s critical needs. He stated, “To win elections, we must chart a course for the next 15 years, not just five.”

During the central working committee discussions, Sharma revealed that a range of crucial issues were addressed, including matters related to the Madhesh and Karnali provinces, the agriculture sector, community schools, cooperatives, high bank loans, the private sector, youth, good governance, and healthcare. By raising these issues, NC leaders aimed to draw the government’s attention and initiate necessary actions.

In contrast to other political parties that rushed to launch ‘Mission 2027’ in preparation for the next election, Sharma asserted that the NC would not immediately focus on the electoral cycle. He mentioned that discussions about the election would commence one year earlier, in 2026.

Sharma also defended the decision to livestream the central working committee proceedings, emphasizing the NC’s commitment to transparency. He stated that the party is presenting itself without exaggeration and that the livestreaming would have a positive impact on other political parties. He further challenged other parties to be open to questions and criticisms, following the NC’s example.
