Sher Bahadur Deuba Acknowledges Pradeep Giri as a Prominent Intellectual in Nepali Congress
Sher Bahadur Deuba, the President of the Nepali Congress (NC) and former Prime Minister, has recognized Pradeep Giri as the second most influential intellectual socialist analyst within the party, following in the footsteps of the party’s founding leader BP Koirala.
During a commemorative event held at the NC central office in Sanepa to mark the first death anniversary of Pradeep Giri, Deuba stated, “He (Giri) holds the position of the second most remarkable intellectual and socialist thinker after the late BP. I personally see him as a tireless individual.”
Deuba characterized Giri as an avid reader and a clever writer, and expressed his commitment to supporting the publication of Giri’s works at the party level, should they be released posthumously.
Gagan Kumar Thapa, the General Secretary of the NC, also spoke at the event, highlighting Giri’s deep awareness of history as one of his intellectual strengths. Thapa stated, “He always motivated us to stay well-informed about history in order to analyze the social, political, and economic facets of society and to find solutions for current challenges.”
Thapa remembered Giri as a skilled and articulate speaker with a quick wit.
Mahalaxmi Upadhya ‘Dina’, the Joint General Secretary of the NC, remarked that Giri’s involvement in politics was driven by a desire for change rather than a quest for positions of power.
Bharati Silwal Giri, the widow of Pradeep Giri, shared her sentiments on the occasion. She expressed how his absence in the democratic socialist movement has been deeply felt since his passing. She recalled Giri’s continuous aspiration for a positive transformation within the NC, which sometimes led him to voice his reservations about party policies and actions.
