Sitaula in Deuba’s Lineup for National Assembly Chairman Position

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba is setting the stage to appoint Krishna Prasad Sitaula, the former general secretary of the party, as the Chairman of the National Assembly. Sources close to the party reveal that Deuba is orchestrating Sitaula’s return from Jhapa to Kathmandu, where he is expected to take on the crucial role.

Sitaula, currently in Jhapa, is scheduled to return to the capital on Sunday evening, with insiders speculating that he intends to stay until the National Assembly election on January 25 concludes. This move is seen as part of President Deuba’s efforts to strengthen the party’s position and leadership within the National Assembly.

Additionally, Deuba is reportedly finalizing nominations for other key positions. Former Vice President Gopalman Shrestha and Joint General Secretary Formullah Mansur are expected to be put forward as candidates for the National Assembly election. Notable figures like Govind Pokharel, Anand Prasad Dhungana, Minendra Rijal, and Sujata Koirala from the NC are also expressing interest in securing National Assembly membership.

To maintain a delicate balance within the party, discussions are underway at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence. Leaders such as Shekhar Koirala, Purna Bahadur Khadka, Gagan Kumar Thapa, and Ramesh Lekhak are actively engaging in these discussions, aiming to address factional dynamics and ensure unity within the NC. The evolving political landscape within the NC hints at a strategic approach as the party braces itself for the upcoming National Assembly election.
