Sixth BIMSTEC Summit Concludes in Bangkok with Vision 2030 Roadmap

The Sixth Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) concluded in Bangkok today with the adoption of the Bangkok Vision 2030 document, outlining a shared roadmap for regional growth, connectivity, and human security.
Themed “BIMSTEC: Prosperous, Resilient and Open,” the summit endorsed a comprehensive six-point proposal focused on expanding trade, strengthening communication networks, and enhancing regional human security. The summit also emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties, especially through cultural exchange and tourism.
At a press conference following the summit, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced the adoption of the Bangkok Vision 2030 along with key agreements, including the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Agreement. This agreement ensures national treatment and support for vessels, crews, and cargo; mutual recognition of shipping documents and certifications; formation of a Joint Shipping Coordination Committee; and mechanisms for dispute resolution.
The summit also agreed to form an Eminent Persons Group tasked with recommending future directions for BIMSTEC. A joint statement was issued to express solidarity with earthquake-affected communities in Myanmar and Thailand, and to strengthen collaborative frameworks for disaster support.
In addition, the BIMSTEC Summit Declaration was officially adopted, reinforcing member states’ commitment to a more action-oriented and integrated regional mechanism.
Thai Prime Minister Shinawatra highlighted the importance of Nepal’s participation, noting that the official visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the eve of the summit had added a significant new dimension to the bilateral ties between Nepal and Thailand.
Leaders from all BIMSTEC member states, including Prime Minister Oli, delivered their addresses at the summit, reaffirming their dedication to regional cooperation and shared progress.
