South Korea Expands Opportunities for Nepali Migrant Workers
South Korea has announced the creation of three additional sectors for foreign employment, specifically targeting Nepali migrant workers. Traditionally known for opportunities in agriculture, animal husbandry, manufacturing, and shipbuilding, South Korea’s labor market will now embrace Nepalis in the forest, service, and root industry sectors as well.
The Department of Employment under the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security disclosed this information on Thursday, highlighting the widening scope for Nepali workers in South Korea. This expansion reflects South Korea’s continued reliance on Nepali labor and its recognition of the contributions made by Nepali migrant workers to its economy.
Effective immediately from 2024, Nepali individuals seeking employment in South Korea can explore opportunities in these newly established sectors. This move is expected to provide a broader spectrum of job prospects for Nepali workers, diversifying their avenues for employment abroad.
The Nepal government received a formal communication from the Korean authorities regarding this expansion. The EPS Korea Section in Gwarko confirmed that South Korea intends to welcome more Nepali migrant workers in the year 2024, signaling a positive outlook for bilateral labor cooperation between the two nations.
The creation of these new sectors not only signifies South Korea’s commitment to strengthening its labor force but also represents a mutually beneficial arrangement for both countries, fostering economic ties and enhancing opportunities for Nepali migrant workers seeking employment overseas.
