Stronger Democracy, the Only Choice for Nepal: Deuba
In a significant address during a ceremony commemorating Reconciliation Day in the capital today, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba asserted that a stronger and better democracy is the sole alternative to a democratic republic. He cautioned against considering any other option, emphasizing that a better democratic setup is the only competitor to any democratic system.
President Deuba highlighted the increased necessity and justification for reconciliation in Nepal as time progresses. He urged everyone to uphold the spirit of reconciliation, stating, “The policy of reconciliation, as introduced by BP Koirala, has had a significant impact on our unity. Its need has increased in Nepal today. There are plots to create an environment against democracy and the republic.”
“The alternative to democracy is better democracy. There is no other option. No one should consider the wrong alternative. All should be united for a democratic republic,” he added firmly.
Deuba acknowledged the beauty in the competitive nature of political parties in Nepal, stating that despite the tough competition, parties also adopt reconciliation and unity. He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity in the face of challenges and potential threats to democracy.
