Tatopani checkpoint to remain closed from today

The Tatopani checkpoint, where movement has been affected time and again, has been closed again starting from today.

According to the Chinese embassy in Nepal, the Tatopani checkpoint will be closed from 11 April to 15 April to prepare for the full opening of the checkpoint.

Preparations have been started to resume the two-way cargo transfer, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal informed. For that preparation, an agreement has been reached between the People’s Government of the Shia Autonomous Region and the local government of Nepal.

Following the earthquakes in 2015, the operation of Tatopani checkpoint has been rather sporadic. This in turn has created a major headache for workers, locals and traders who import goods from China.

Most of the business people who import goods from China have been affected due to unreliability of the checkpoint operations. Earlier, citing the threat of COVID-19, Chinese authorities had restricted all types of movement across the border.
