Tensions Flare as NSU Divides: Clash at Nepali Congress Office

Tensions escalated today at the central office of the Nepali Congress as slogans were raised and clashes ensued between the students of Nepal Students Union (NSU). The dispute arose over the expansion of the central ad-hoc committee of NSU by parent party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, leading to a protest by discontented students.

Expressing strong dissatisfaction with President Deuba’s, a group of students from the NSU rallied in protest on Monday. They argued that the expansion of the central ad-hoc committee was not in line with the party’s policies and laws.

Student leaders including Yogendra Rawal, Ashok Bista, and Binod Shahi gathered in Sanepa to announce the formation of a parallel committee within the Union. However, their plans were thwarted as they were denied entry into the party office by a mobilized police presence.

In response to the initial protest, another group of students who supported NSU president Dujang Sherpa launched a counter-protest in Sanepa. This further exacerbated the situation, leading to a clash between the two factions. The police were eventually forced to intervene to quell the confrontation.

Yogendra Rawal, one of the leaders advocating for the parallel committee, issued a warning that they would stage a siege on President Deuba’s residence tomorrow. This announcement came after their unsuccessful attempt to enter the parent party office.
