Three Children Die from Suspected Food Poisoning in Bara District
Tragedy struck the family of Naresh Ram in Jhawani Tole, Simraungadh Municipality-7, Bara, as three of his children have died from suspected food poisoning. The deceased children—Lalima Ram, 7, Pushpa Ram, 7, and Ramnandan Ram, 5—succumbed to severe health complications after consuming a meal on Sunday night.
According to Bara Police, the entire family had eaten the same meal, which included rice and curry made from fish harvested from a local pond. However, only the children exhibited symptoms of food poisoning, while their mother and grandparents, who consumed the same food, remained unaffected.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Sapkota from the District Police Office confirmed that a preliminary investigation has not revealed any toxic substances in the home. Authorities are now investigating the possibility that the children might have ingested something else prior to their evening meal.
Inspector Nabin Rai of the Area Police Office reported that the children were first taken to a local polyclinic after they complained of health issues. They were later transferred to the Provincial Hospital in Kalaiya, Bara. Tragically, one child passed away en route to the hospital. The other two children were referred to the National Medical College in Birgunj, where they died during treatment.
Autopsies have been conducted, and the bodies have been handed over to the family. The children’s father, Naresh Ram, is currently in Punjab, India, for work, according to local sources. The incident has left the community in shock, and authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the children’s deaths.
