Three Key Bills on Citizenship, Police, and APF Presented in HoR

The government introduced three major bills in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday, focusing on citizenship, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force (APF).
Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak presented the Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill-2081, Nepal Police Bill-2081, and Armed Police Force Nepal Bill-2081 during the session.
Explaining the purpose of the citizenship bill, Minister Lekhak stated that it aims to further systematize the process of issuing citizenship certificates. He emphasized that the bill was formulated after extensive discussions to ensure timely amendments to existing laws.
Regarding the Nepal Police and APF bills, the minister reassured lawmakers that there would be no duplication in the roles and responsibilities of the two security agencies. He also noted that the bills would address concerns related to service entry, career progression, and retirement of security personnel.
Earlier in the session, the House unanimously rejected a note of dissent submitted by parliamentarians Prem Suwal, Sumana Shrestha, and Binita Kathayat, which opposed the proposal to table the bills for discussion.
