Tinkune Violence Claims Two Lives, Leaves 53 Police Officers Injured

The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has expressed serious concern over the human and material damage caused during the violent protests at Tinkune.

What was initially permitted as a peaceful demonstration by supporters of the former king escalated into vandalism, targeting private properties, hospitals, media houses, political party offices, commercial areas, and public transport. Protesters also breached restricted areas, prompting a strong response from security forces.

Authorities confirmed that Sabin Maharjan of Kirtipur-4 succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Another victim, Suresh Rajak, was found dead inside Marble House in Tinkune, reportedly trapped when the building was set on fire.

The violence left 53 Nepal Police personnel, 22-Armed Police Force personnel, and 35 protesters injured. Additionally, nine government vehicles and six private or government-owned vehicles were torched, while arson was reported at 14 locations. Protesters also vandalized nine institutions and looted one property, according to Superintendent of Police Appelraj Bohara.

The police have vowed to take legal action against those responsible for the destruction and maintain order in the capital.
