‘Tour de Thakurdwara’ Cycling Event to Boost Tourism in Banke and Bardiya

All preparations have been finalized for the ‘Tour de Thakurdwara’ cycling event, set to begin tomorrow to promote tourism in Banke and Bardiya districts.

The event, part of the Nepalgunj Cycling Festival, will kick off from Nepalgunj and run from February 6 to 8. 196 cyclists from various parts of Nepal, including Jhapa, Dharan, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Dang, Chitwan, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Palpa, and Biratnagar, as well as international participants from India, Japan, and Korea, are expected to join the tour.

Pradip Sapkota, President of the Nepalgunj Cycling Club and organizer of the event, confirmed that all arrangements for food and accommodation have been completed. He emphasized that the cycling tour would showcase the tourism destinations of Banke and Bardiya, enhancing their visibility and attracting more visitors.

This marks the seventh edition of the Nepalgunj Cycling Festival. Sapkota noted that plans for a ‘Tour de Banke National Park’ were initially considered, given the area’s tourism potential. However, logistical challenges related to accommodating nearly 300 participants in the park area hindered its feasibility.

Sapkota also highlighted the importance of developing plans to connect religious and natural attractions in Nepalgunj, such as Bageshwari Temple, Baba Bararfani, Santaneshwar Temple, Govardhan Dham, Sikta Barrage, Banke National Park, and Gabhar Valley, to further promote tourism in the region.
