Tourism at Rara Lake Affected by Road Connectivity Issues in Mugu
Tourists visiting Rara Lake in Mugu district are facing difficulties due to the lack of a proper accessible road.
The Nagma-Gamgadhi road leading to the lake has been damaged in several areas. As a result, it becomes dusty during winter and muddy during the monsoon season, making it challenging for tourists to reach the lake.
Despite repeated requests, the road has not been blacktopped, according to Bishwo Babu Shrestha, chief of Rara National Park. The Road Division Office in Jumla stated that no budget has been allocated for blacktopping the road.
Local residents have expressed concerns about the road’s lack of priority in the budget for the next fiscal year, 2023/24. “It is concerning that the Nagma-Sinja-Gamgadhi road has not been given priority in the budget. Lawmakers representing Jumla and Mugu districts should draw the attention of the Finance Minister and propose an amendment on this issue,” said Purna Prasad Dhital, chairperson of Sinja Rural Municipality.
He demanded that the government focus on blacktopping the road to promote tourism in the area.
