Tourist Influx Increases on Annapurna Trekking Route as Season Begins
With the start of the tourist season, the Annapurna trekking route has seen a significant rise in the number of trekkers. More than 150 tourists are arriving daily, confirming the route’s popularity as one of Nepal’s premier trekking destinations, second only to the Khumbu trekking route.
Bhupendra Gurung, Chief of the Tourist Information Centre at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Manang, reported the surge in trekkers. He stated that over 12,355 tourists have visited the route so far in 2024, a notable increase compared to 10,897 during the same period last year.
Hoteliers along the trekking route have experienced a boost in economic activity, with higher occupancy rates due to the increased footfall. According to Gurung, tourists from France top the list of visitors, followed by nationals from Israel, Germany, and India.
Trekkers are drawn to the route’s breathtaking views of the Himalayas and surrounding hilly regions, with many traversing the famous Thorang La pass to reach Mustang before continuing to Pokhara. The Annapurna route remains a key attraction for adventurers seeking to experience Nepal’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
