Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has resumed 18-hour operations starting today, following a five-month reduction in working hours due to runway upgrading works.
According to TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula, the airport will now operate from 6:00 AM to 12:00 midnight. The construction of a linkway connecting the taxiway to the runway has been completed, while work on the parallel taxiway is still underway.
The upgrades are part of the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project, overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The project includes the construction of a South-West Parallel Taxiway, an expanded International Apron in the northeast, and a Hangar Apron in the east.
With 90% of the project completed, the total estimated cost stands at Rs 15 billion. However, authorities estimate that it will take another 1.5 years to fully complete all construction work.
