The Armed Police Force (APF) has apprehended two individuals in possession of 1,636 kilograms of marijuana in Jhapa. The arrest was made on Mechi Highway in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-4, along with the seizure of two trucks used to transport the illegal substance.
According to Superintendent of Police Bikram Humagain of the APF, the marijuana was discovered in 57 bags inside trucks bearing registration numbers Ko 1 Kha 5001 and Pra 1-02-002 Kha 0584, which were traveling from Ilam to Jhapa.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mahesh Rai of Shahidbhumi Municipality-4, Dhankuta, and Ganga Bahadur Basnet (37) of Maijogain Rural Municipality-2, Ilam.
In addition to the marijuana, the police seized Rs. 87,880 in cash and five mobile phones from the suspects. The apprehended individuals, along with the confiscated items, have been handed over to the District Police Office, Jhapa for further investigation and legal action.
This significant drug bust underscores the ongoing efforts of the APF to curb the illegal trafficking of narcotics in the region.
