U.S. to Fund New Helicopters for Nepali Army to Boost Disaster Response Capabilities
Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, wrapped up a productive visit to Nepal, where he engaged with key leaders and stakeholders to discuss the strengthening of the U.S.-Nepal partnership and support for Nepal’s future development goals.
During his visit, Deputy Secretary Verma met with Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Minister of Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba. They discussed U.S. support for Nepal’s ambitious plans to shape a brighter, sustainable, and inclusive future for its people. The discussions also focused on enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
In a significant announcement, Verma shared that the United States has committed to funding the purchase of additional new helicopters for the Nepali Army. This support aims to bolster Nepal’s disaster response capabilities, enhancing the country’s preparedness and resilience in the face of natural calamities.
Verma also had the opportunity to engage with Millennium Challenge Account Nepal officials, noting the impressive progress of the MCC Nepal Compact. His visit included a visit to the Nepal Tea Collective team in Thamel, where he enjoyed tasting some fine tea supported by USAID Nepal.
Additionally, Deputy Secretary Verma met with pioneering women entrepreneurs, recognizing their contributions and discussing opportunities for further collaboration.
The visit underscored the strong partnership between the U.S. and Nepal and highlighted ongoing efforts to support Nepal’s development and growth.
