UK’s Support to Nepal’s Health Sector Continues: British Minister of State for Health, Will Quince
A significant meeting took place between Nepal’s Minister of Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, and the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Health, Will Quince, at the Ministry of Health in the United Kingdom. During the meeting held on Monday, Minister Basnet lauded the British government’s unwavering support for Nepal’s economic and social development, particularly in the health sector. The Nepali Embassy in London expressed confidence that this support would further increase in the future.
Minister Basnet expressed his satisfaction with the recently concluded agreement between Nepal and Britain regarding the employment of Nepali nurses in the UK. He also requested support for the capacity building of Nepali health institutions, highlighting the importance of enhancing healthcare services in Nepal.
In response, British Health Minister Will Quince assured Minister Basnet that the UK’s support to Nepal’s health sector would continue. He emphasized that efforts are underway to strengthen the capacity of Nepal’s nursing sector, and the arrival of Nepali nurses in the UK will be mutually beneficial for both countries. The embassy reiterated Minister Quince’s commitment to Nepal’s health sector.
During his visit to the United Kingdom, Minister Basnet also had the opportunity to visit the training center, emergency department, and wards of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. He gained insights into the training and transfer process for nurses recruited from Nepal. Roshan Khanal, Deputy Head of the Embassy, mentioned the presence of Gyan Chandra Acharya, the Nepali ambassador to the UK, in the meeting, further highlighting the importance of the discussions.
Minister Basnet’s visit signifies the deepening collaboration and partnership between Nepal and the UK in the health sector. The continued support from the UK underscores the strong bilateral ties and the shared commitment to improving healthcare in Nepal.
