The Unified Socialist Party showcased its strength in a vibrant rally from Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, ahead of the inauguration of its 10th general convention. Party members, dressed in various costumes, marched through the city, highlighting the party’s unity and vigor.

Prominent leaders such as Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalnath Khanal, Ghanshyam Bhusal, Rajendra Pandey, and Beduram Bhusal participated in the rally. The convention, beginning today at Pragya Bhawan Kamaladi in Kathmandu, will focus on passing the party’s ideological approach, policies, and programs, and will also elect new leadership.

Madhav Kumar Nepal, the current Chairman, and Ghanshyam Bhusal, backed by Jhalnath Khanal, are the main candidates for the new leadership. If consensus is not reached, the leadership will be chosen through a democratic process.

The Unified Socialist Party was formed in August 2021 by a faction of CPN-UML leaders, led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, in response to UML chair KP Sharma Oli’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives twice. This group split from the country’s largest communist party to form the Unified Socialist.

A total of 1,875 representatives from across the country are gathering for the convention. The party currently holds 10 seats in the Federal Parliament and eight in the National Assembly and leads the government in the Sudurpaschim Province.
