US Citizen Arrested with Foreign Currencies at TIA

A US citizen has been arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for attempting to smuggle foreign currencies out of Nepal. The suspect, identified as Ni Yan, was apprehended on Saturday while preparing to board a Batik Air flight to Malaysia.

According to police, Ni Yan was found in possession of USD 12,748, SGD 249, 12,000 Indonesian Rupiah, and 100 Malaysian Ringgit. Additionally, authorities seized 19 mobile phones, 28 SIM cards, and 122 memory cards from her luggage at the airport’s departure hold baggage area.

She has been handed over to the Police Circle, Gaushala for further investigation.
