US Embassy Again Denies Visa to Sandeep Lamichhane

The US Embassy in Nepal has once again denied a visa to prominent cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane. This latest rejection comes despite concerted efforts by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to address the issue. Lamichhane was summoned for an interview at the Embassy on Thursday afternoon, only to face disappointment once more.

Reports indicate that the Embassy’s decision was based on concerns over a perceived low likelihood of Lamichhane returning to Nepal. The denial has thrown a wrench into Lamichhane’s plans to travel to the USA and the West Indies to participate in the upcoming T-20 World Cup.

While other members of the Nepali national team have already flown abroad to prepare for the matches, Lamichhane’s participation remains uncertain. The cricketer, known for his leg-spin prowess, has expressed frustration over the setback, which he feels is a significant blow to his career and Nepal’s prospects in the tournament.

The visa denial has sparked protests in Kathmandu, with supporters and some political parties condemning the US Embassy’s decision. Demonstrators argue that Lamichhane’s participation in the World Cup is crucial for the national team and that he poses no flight risk.

The situation is further complicated by Lamichhane’s recent legal troubles. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had previously suspended him following allegations of rape. However, this suspension was lifted after the Patan High Court acquitted him, allowing him to resume his cricketing career.
