Varun Beverages Honored as Highest Tax-Paying Special Industry on National Tax Day

Varun Beverages Limited, the bottler for Pepsi in Nepal, has been recognized as the highest tax-paying special industry by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD). The accolade underscores the company’s significant contribution to Nepal’s national development through exemplary tax compliance.

During the National Tax Day 2081 celebration, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel presented the certificate of honor to Sanjeev Arora, Finance Director of Varun Beverages Limited Nepal.

Commitment to National Growth

The annual National Tax Day, observed on Mangsir 1 (November 16), marks the implementation of the Value Added Tax Act, 2052, in 2054 BS (1997). The government has celebrated this day since 2069 BS to acknowledge outstanding performers in tax contributions.

Varun Beverages Limited, established in 1995, has been a vital player in the Nepalese beverage industry and a consistent contributor to the nation’s economic growth.

Sustainability Initiatives

Beyond its financial contributions, Varun Beverages has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The company has implemented key initiatives to promote clean energy, including the installation of a 2MW solar power plant at its manufacturing facility. To improve energy efficiency, Varun Beverages has adopted active harmonic filters to reduce power consumption.

In addition, the company collaborates with NGOs and local bodies for tree planting efforts and has implemented systems to enhance water recovery during bottle washing operations. For carbon emission reduction, Varun Beverages utilizes bag filters at its plants and is transitioning from diesel forklifts to electric vehicles in phases.

The company is also exploring plastic waste management solutions, partnering with third-party vendors to implement recycling initiatives. This recognition highlights not only Varun Beverages’ substantial financial contributions to the national economy but also its alignment with global sustainability goals, setting a positive example for the industry.
