Vehicle Found in Sunkoshi River; Three Still Missing After Saturday’s Accident

The Hilux SUV that plunged into the Sunkoshi River on Saturday was located at 2:00 am today. The vehicle, registered as Province 3-01-023 Cha 6366, had fallen into the river while traveling from Halesi, Khotang, to Bhaktapur via the Mid-hill Highway at Kundule, Golanjor Rural Municipality-1.

A team of divers from the Armed Police Force, aided by a dozer, recovered the submerged SUV from the river, according to Superintendent of Police Govinda Raj Kafle of the District Police Office, Sindhuli. The vehicle was found 50 meters downstream from the point where it had fallen into the river.

Three people remain missing: 32-year-old Abin Bake, 30-year-old Pranit Syagu, and 37-year-old Balram Ghatuwa. Nepal Police, APF divers, and local volunteers are actively searching for them.

The SUV had four occupants. Sushant Kakshapati, 27, who survived by jumping out of the vehicle, has been treated and discharged from Sunkoshi Community Hospital, Khurkot.
