What Did They Discuss? President Paudel’s Meeting with German Counterpart

President Ramchandra Paudel met his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin, expressing optimism about strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Germany.

President Paudel emphasized Nepal’s prioritization of its relationship with Germany, stating his belief that the evolving global context would further solidify these ties, as conveyed by his press adviser, Kiran Pokharel.

“Nepal is committed to achieving sustainable peace, stability, and development. We express our gratitude for the support received from Germany during the peace process. We are confident that Germany will continue to provide support and cooperation as Nepal advances on its path to development,” Pokharel quoted President Paudel during his discussions with President Steinmeier.

According to President Paudel’s secretariat, he highlighted the crucial role of economic development in sustaining Nepal’s political achievements. He stressed the importance of expanding trade, investment, and commercial relations between the two nations and encouraged German investors to consider opportunities in Nepal.

President Paudel also sought support from the German government to lift the ban on Nepali airlines from flying into European airspace and assistance in securing the release of Nepalis held hostage in Ukraine.

In response, German President Steinmeier expressed Germany’s readiness to support Nepal’s economic development, Pokharel confirmed.

Ahead of the bilateral talks, President Paudel was honored with a guard of honor. Earlier in the day, he visited historic sites, including the Berlin Wall, accompanied by First Lady Sabita Poudel and other members of his delegation.

President Paudel arrived in Germany on Saturday, following an invitation from President Steinmeier. Before Berlin, he attended the 112th International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organisation and the inaugural session of the Global Alliance for Social Justice in Switzerland, where he met Swiss President Viola Amherd to discuss issues of mutual interest.

President Paudel is scheduled to return to Nepal on Wednesday morning.
