Where’s the Government? Surya Thapa Asks

CPN-UML lawmaker Surya Thapa has raised eyebrows with his remarks about the conspicuous absence of government officials during an ongoing House of Representatives meeting. Thapa’s pointed comment, “Where’s the Government?”, highlighted the absence of not just the Prime Minister but also every minister, leaving the House session without crucial executive representation.

Thapa minced no words in expressing his concerns, deeming the absence of both the Prime Minister and the entire ministerial cabinet as a blatant disregard for the legislative body. He emphasized, “It is an insult to this House that the Prime Minister and not a single minister appear in the meeting.”

Drawing attention to the importance of ministerial presence for the functioning of the House, Thapa stressed, “The House cannot move forward without the ministers.” Thapa’s poignant critique reached a climax when he urged, “Mr. Speaker, let us search for the government.”

Amidst Thapa’s objection, the Minister of Communications and government spokesperson, Rekha Sharma, entered the scene. Sharma’s presence seemed to partially address Thapa’s concerns, yet it remained a reminder of the overall government absence up until that point.

In response to the situation, the Speaker of the House intervened, ensuring that the meeting would proceed as per the predetermined agenda.
