WHO to enlist Dhulikhel as first healthy city of Nepal
World Health Organization (WHO) is going to enlist Dhulikhel Municipality of Kavrepalanchok district as the first healthy city of Nepal. WHO is preparing to recognize Dhulikhel, a tourist town located 30 kilometers east of Kathmandu, as the first healthy city of Nepal within a month.
Mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality Ashok Kumar Byanju (Shrestha) said that works of Dhulikhel on four goals under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)- quality education, good health, clean water and sanitation and no poverty- have been emulated in eight different nations working on the same.
The Mayor said that pure drinking water is being supplied to 86 per cent of municipality households. The municipality is working with United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to make its inhabitants rich in nutrition intake. He said that 72 per cent locals have been covered with health insurance facility.
He informed that the municipality has invested Rs. 230 million for garbage management. “Other countries of the world are also imitating the development model of Dhulikhel, now we are focused on planning what to do to be safe from disease”, Shrestha added.
