Court Extends Kailash Sirohiya’s Custody by Three Days

The Dhanusha District Court has granted permission to remand Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), in custody for an additional three days. Sirohiya was initially arrested on Tuesday in connection with a dual citizenship issue and has been detained at the Dhanusha Police Office.

The initial remand, approved by the court, allowed the police to hold Sirohiya in custody for three days starting Wednesday. Today, Judge Romakanta Gyawali of Bench Number 5 approved an extension, permitting another three days of custody.

Chief District Attorney of Dhanusha, Sudeep Dangal, had requested a five-day extension to further the ongoing investigation into the dual citizenship allegations. The court, however, granted a shorter extension, emphasizing the need for a timely and thorough investigation.

The case has drawn significant attention, given Sirohiya’s prominent role in Nepal’s media landscape. Kantipur Media Group, under his leadership, has been a major force in Nepali journalism, and the investigation’s outcome could have broader implications for the media industry and issues of citizenship legality in the country.
