During the third Nepal Investment Summit, India’s Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, emphasized India’s role as a steadfast partner in Nepal’s ongoing development, in a video message delivered on Sunday.

Goyal highlighted the enduring bond between the two nations, stating, “Nepal and India not only share borders but also a deep-rooted friendship and a shared vision for a prosperous future.” This statement was part of his message to attendees at the summit, which aims to attract investment and boost economic growth in Nepal.

Further strengthening the bilateral ties, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, spoke at the inaugural session, underlining India’s commitment to encouraging its companies to invest in Nepal. He noted the significant role of energy trade, particularly Nepal’s export of power to India, in enriching the bilateral relations.

Ambassador Srivastava also mentioned the ongoing collaborations between the two countries in areas such as integrated check posts and trans-border electricity transmission facilities. He expressed satisfaction with the current level of investment, highlighting, “India is today the biggest cumulative investor in Nepal, with more than 33 per cent of Nepal’s FDI stock amounting to nearly Nepali rupees 89 billion.”

The summit, attended by international and local business leaders, policymakers, and investors, aims to showcase Nepal’s investment opportunities and create a platform for discussing strategies to enhance economic cooperation in the region.
