19th NAM Summit: PM Dahal Set to Depart for Uganda on January 18

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to embark on a diplomatic mission to Kampala, the Republic of Uganda, leading a distinguished Nepali delegation to the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

The Summit, scheduled to take place on January 19-20, will bring together leaders from across the globe to deliberate on the theme ‘Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.’ Prime Minister Prachanda is slated to address the plenary session on the opening day of the Summit.

Accompanying the Prime Minister on this significant international engagement is his daughter, Ganga Dahal. The Nepali delegation includes key figures such as Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior government officials, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to participating in the Summit’s plenary session, Prime Minister Prachanda is expected to engage in bilateral meetings with heads of states, heads of governments, and other high dignitaries on the sidelines of the Summit. A state banquet, hosted by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will honor the heads of delegation from NAM Member States.

The Summit will be preceded by a Ministerial Meeting on January 17-18, with Foreign Minister Saud leading the Nepali delegation. This Ministerial Meeting follows a Senior Officials Meeting on January 15-16, setting the stage for substantive discussions on the agenda.

As a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement, Nepal remains committed to the principles of non-alignment, a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The Summit will assess the progress made since the 18th Summit held in 2019, culminating in the adoption of the Kampala Declaration.

Upon the conclusion of the Summit, Prime Minister Prachanda will return to Kathmandu on January 21. Subsequently, Foreign Secretary Lamsal will lead the Nepali delegation to the Third South Summit, scheduled to take place from January 21 to 22 in Kampala.

Nepal’s active participation in these diplomatic endeavors underscores its commitment to international cooperation, mutual respect, and the pursuit of global prosperity. The outcomes of these summits are expected to further strengthen Nepal’s ties with the international community.
