Court Frees Congress MP Sunil Sharma for Probe; 7 Doctors Detained
The Kathmandu District Court has issued an order for the release of Nepali Congress MP Sunil Sharma, who was taken into custody on charges of forging educational certificates, to facilitate further investigation.
Mr. Sharma, who was apprehended at his residence in Golfutar, Kathmandu, was presented before the district court on Friday by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police, acting through the public prosecutor’s office.
Justice Dandpani Sharma, presiding over the bench, directed the CIB to carry out the investigation while ensuring that MP Sharma remains out of detention.
In addition to Mr. Sharma, the court has granted permission for the detention of the seven other doctors who were also arrested in connection with this case.
The doctors in question, namely Dr. Rambabu Yadav, Dr. Ranjit Yadav, Dr. Elina Shah, Dr. Amit, Dr. Punam Thapa Chaudhary, Dr. Manit Chaudhary, and Dr. Shraddha Shilpkar, have been placed under custody and authorized for investigation.
The CIB has initiated an operation to apprehend individuals who acquired their medical qualifications based on falsified educational certificates. Consequently, more arrests are anticipated as authorities continue to uncover the extent of this fraudulent activity.
