Canadian Government Extends Work Opportunities for International Students; Full-Time Employment Permitted Until April 2024

The Canadian government has expanded the work privileges for international students, allowing them to work full-time, up to 40 hours per week, a substantial increase from the previous limit of 20 hours. The announcement comes as a boost to students already in Canada and those planning to pursue their studies in the country.

Effective immediately, international students enrolled in Canadian institutions, as well as those with pending study permit applications submitted as of December 7, 2023, can take advantage of this extended opportunity. This groundbreaking policy will remain in effect until April 2024, providing students with increased financial flexibility and the ability to gain valuable work experience.

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marc Miller, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting international students during their academic journeys. Notably, the new regulations permit students to engage in full-time employment even during the regular academic session, opening up avenues for enhanced learning and professional development.
