Security Printing Bill to be advanced soon

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that Security Printing Bill should be advanced by considering the lawmakers’ amendment motions, report received from the National Assembly and the spirit of the discussions taken place in the parliamentary committee meetings.

At a discussion programme on the Security Printing Bill in today’s meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR), Minister Sharma stated that a clear definition on printing of bank notes should be stated in the bill.

“The issues to be included in the security printing categories should be made clear as other materials too could come for printing except the ones stated by the government as the security printing,” Minister Sharma argued.

Minister Sharma further stated that printing of the driving license which is under the rights of the province government should be removed from the bill.

Likewise, she argued that ATM and Recharge Cards also could not fall under the scope of the security printing since the telecommunications company can issue these services.

The government had registered the bill at the federal parliament some three years ago to pave ways for the establishment of security printing press.
