Advanced Solar Energy Project Inaugurated at BPOTC

The ‘Advanced Solar Energy Project’ with a capacity of 185 KVA has been inaugurated at Nepal Army’s Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre (BPOTC) in Panchkhal.

Rachel Schiller, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, inaugurated the project, which was built with the support of the United States Asia Pacific Command- World Peace Work efforts.

On this occasion, she expressed her happiness in inaugurating the ‘Hybrid Solar Energy Generator’ scheme, a tripartite partnership between the United States of America, Nepal, and the United Nations.

“This project will also be expanded to be used by the Nepali battalion serving in the United Nations mission in South Sudan,” Schiller said. This initiative will replace the diesel generator currently utilized by the Nepalese battalion in Rumbek, South Sudan, with hybrid solar generator technology. Schiller emphasized that this move would help in reducing carbon emissions and cutting down mission costs by decreasing fuel consumption.

Major General Prem Dhoj Adhikari provided information about the project and expressed gratitude for the American support. He also highlighted the project’s importance in collective efforts and commitment. He mentioned that the energy produced from this project would enhance the Nepali Army’s efficiency in its regular operations and expressed belief in solar energy’s contribution to a cleaner environment and reduced carbon emissions.
