MoFA Restricts NRNA’s Non-Routine Activities
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has issued a directive to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), urging them to refrain from engaging in non-routine activities. This decision comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling on April 3, prompting MoFA to intervene in the functioning of the NRNA.
On Wednesday, MoFA dispatched a letter to the NRNA, instructing its Secretariat to abstain from any tasks other than regular administrative activities until the formation of a new International Coordination Council. According to MoFA, any actions taken by the NRNA, including the election of the International Coordination Council, will not be recognized as official until the new council is established as per the Supreme Court’s order.
The letter emphasized adherence to Rule 16 (2) of the Non-Resident Nepali Rules, 2066 BS, which prohibits activities that may compromise the unity, integrity, objectives, and effectiveness of the NRNA. Furthermore, the MoFA stressed the importance of refraining from financial responsibilities beyond regular administrative duties and any activities that could undermine unity, mutual cooperation, and goodwill among non-resident Nepalis.
This directive follows the formation of a high-level committee on January 15, 2022, under the leadership of a former NRNA president, tasked with organizing a unity convention to establish the new International Coordination Council in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order. The MoFA’s letter serves as a reminder of the need for adherence to legal mandates and organizational protocols during this transitional period within the NRNA.
