Taplejung Concern Centre Kathmandu Felicitates Dr. Sanduk Ruit for Contributions to Eye Treatment

Taplejung Concern Centre Kathmandu has honored Dr. Sanduk Ruit, founder and executive director of the Tilganga Eye Foundation, for his significant contributions to the field of eye treatment. Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire presented the accolade at a function held in Kathmandu today.

Speaker Ghimire highlighted that while Taplejung is a district rich in beauty and charm, it remains hindered by poverty and underdevelopment. He acknowledged Dr. Ruit’s efforts and emphasized the need for similar dedication to improve the region.

CPN (UML) secretary and former minister Yogesh Bhattarai spoke at the event, noting that the current government, formed by two major political parties, is striving for political stability and national prosperity.

Historian and cultural expert Dr. Surendra KC praised democracy as a way of life, urging society to follow the exemplary path of Dr. Ruit for positive guidance.

Dr. Ruit suggested that the government, parliament, and political parties should focus on the rapid completion of the Tamor Corridor road construction, which would enable the nation to harness the potential of the Kanjanjunga region.

Born in Olangchungola, Taplejung, Dr. Ruit has positioned Nepal as a global educational hub for eye treatment by establishing a world-class eye hospital and providing exceptional care to patients. He is celebrated for producing affordable, high-quality lenses and simplifying cataract surgery, earning him the title “god of sight” for marginalized communities.

Dr. Ruit has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Isa Award from the Government of Bahrain, and the Padma Shri Medal from the Government of India, among others.
